Sciatica (Gridhrasi)

Prevention is better than cure

What It Is:

Sciatica is a condition where the sciatic nerve—the longest nerve in the body—is compressed or irritated, causing radiating pain from the lower back to the buttock and down one leg. In Ayurveda, this condition is described as Gridhrasi, a painful Vata-dominant neurological disorder. Causes may include herniated discs, spinal stenosis, or muscular tension around the piriformis. The imbalance of Vata dosha leads to nerve dryness, inflammation, and pain radiating along the nerve pathway.

Symptoms:

  • Sharp or burning pain from lower back to one or both legs
  • Numbness, tingling, or pins-and-needles sensation
  • Weakness in leg muscles
  • Pain worsens with prolonged sitting or standing

Don’t let radiating leg pain hold you back. At our clinic, traditional Ayurvedic therapies work to calm nerve irritation, relieve pain, and strengthen the lower back—helping you enjoy an active and balanced lifestyle.
